How to use edibles safely

In simple terms, edibles are food products that contain cannabis. It may not be popular to many people but on the other hand, those who use edibles understand better. One can buy readymade edibles such as; chocolate, candies, baked goods, and beverages. Also, one can make their own such as brownies, butter, oil, or ice. Most people are having problems when they consume cannabis-infused foods, especially when consumed in high doses though it is very hard to control the dosing. The following are some ways on how to consume edibles safely.

  1. One has to understand how it works in the body

This is a key condition that one should consider before consuming edibles. It involves how one is emotionally and physically because this is a key factor that will determine how high or the effects after consuming edibles. Bodies react to cannabis differently and this determines how long will the effects last. It takes time for one to feel the full impact because the digestion process has to take place and afterward, the cannabis is absorbed into the bloodstream. The effect is faster especially when one has not recently eaten than a person who has recently eaten a heavy meal. Being a regular cannabis smoker does not always guarantee the same effect, but at times edibles can hit one harder. In most cases, eating cannabis is considered to make one more intense high than smoking. Also one has to understand that each edible has different effects depending on the unique variable of your body.

  1. Consider the type of edible

Mostly, the effect of edibles varies from which form one consumes them. For instance, when one sucks lollipops, one gets high faster than a person consuming chocolate and this is because chocolate takes time in the digestion process. Also, the type of ingredients used in the edible matters. This includes ingredients such as water-based, sugar-based ingredients, or fat-based ingredients. Water-based edibles tend to have faster effects because they are easily absorbed in the bloodstream, unlike sugar-based ingredients which take more time before being entering the bloodstream.

  1. Never trust strains to predict what your experience will be like

There are two main strains namely, indica and Sativa. The strains’ unique effects, flavors, and aromas are mostly caused by compounds known as terpenes. But in the process of making edibles, the majority of terpenes are lost. Considering this fact, it is very hard to come to a conclusive statement about the predictability of consumers’ experience with edibles based on assumptions of the strain factor. For one to safely consume edibles, this factor should be less considered.

On the whole, on how to consume edibles safely, one has to keenly understand how the body works to know when and how to safely consume edibles. For example,  taking alcohol and then eating edibles lead to more server effects which might be uncomfortable. Also, one has to consider the ingredients used for one to know what works for an individual. For the sake of safer consumption of edibles, follow the above-explained point but in case of an overdose, stay hydrated and take some sleep.
